  • Distribute your weight evenly in the middle part of your feet
  • Put your hips back
  • Angle your upper body and your spine forward when facing the ball

“Understanding your own golf swing is the secret,” Gray said. “Figuring out the hows and whys of your shots.” 

Gravity is also a good tip to any good golf swing and swing path. When you swing the club in a downward motion, your club automatically accelerates as it approaches the ball. Use the gravity to swing through the ball instead of concentrating on just hitting it. Let your arms continue upward and continue with a full swing and do not worry about where the ball goes as soon as you feel impact with it and ball flight begins.

Gray said the most important part of the golf swing starts before you start to swing. “ You must perfect your grip and pre-shot routine,” Gray said. 

The key to a good golf swing is also using the muscles in your legs and core to stay steady and complete in one fluid motion during a swing. Perfecting a golf swing takes time though. Using all your muscles, even in your arms and hands and legs, together, helps.

When hitting this club, your left arm should always remain straight and the left foot heel should remain on the ground. The left knee should point toward the ball and your hips can rotate during the swing as long as you don’t slide back. 

How Far Should I Stand From the Golf Ball? 

When you address a golf ball on the tee, you should line it up with the logo on your polo shirt. Make sure the grip on the golf club is approximately six inches or so from your body. 

What Starts the Golf Downswing?

Your lower body is starting your downswing toward the ball before you even realize it. While your upper body and arms are still going back behind your head, the lower body is preparing for the downswing and starting to prepare your lead foot to handle the forceful downswing and follow through past the ball.
